I’m excited – let me tell you why! This week I had a chance to sit down with E.A. Comiskey and discuss her book More Things in Heaven and Earth. I’ve already read this fantasy and I loved it! I hope you’ll read along.
E.A. Comiskey is an award-winning writer and nationally syndicated blogger. Her debut novel, More Things in Heaven and Earth (2016, Nuff Said Publishing) has been a best-seller within its category on Amazon and the sequel, Dwelling in Heaven and Earth (July, 2017 – Nuff Said Publishing), is the winner of the Wattpad Fic Awards for Best Supernatural/Paranormal Novel. Her work is broadly described as “speculative fiction” and often includes elements of mythology, fantasy, horror, and romance.
She lives in southeast Michigan with her husband, children, and a veritable zoo of creatures. If there’s a festival in the area, you can bet she’s there, most likely drawing on the pavement with chalk. After all, when you live in Michigan, you go outside whenever you get the chance.
Let’s take a look at what the book is all about!
“The veil is coming down. What will be revealed about you?”
Simone Fitzgerald battles for a normal life against voices no one else hears. She seems to be succeeding, until an angel appears, asking her to embrace the voices as a gift and stand as The Prophet.
When demons mobilize the beings of legend against mankind, Divine Wrath burns hot against creation. Simone must find the strength to embrace The Light and bring peace to the universe, but she may be crushed under the weight of the burden she’s been asked to bear.
Follow an epic journey that takes the earth you know through a time when fairy tale creatures rule and into realms undreamed of.

The best part of any interview is the questions. I asked a few tough ones and got back great answers.
Question: Who is your favourite character from your book and why?
Answer: When I started writing this story, I didn’t really know who the characters were going to turn out to be. I only knew the circumstances they would find themselves in. As things developed though, I think that Michael stood out as someone extraordinary, though he’s just about the only one who has no special abilities. Maybe he was special because of his humanity. While everyone else was dealing with “phenomenal cosmic power” he didn’t try to be anything or anyone except his very best self.
I also love Raziel. He appears throughout the series and he’s just a deliciously complicated web of complex motives.
Question: Please describe him/her/they a) physically b) their personality.
Answer: Michael is an artist and a dreamer. He is deeply passionate about his love for his family and friends, but a calm and steady rock in the midst of a world turned to chaos. He has a quiet faith in what is good and right that everyone else draws from. In the story, he’s not given much of a physical description beyond dark, curly hair and a scar on his cheek. Simone (his wife) sees him as the most handsome man in the world, even after she witnesses supernatural beauty.
Question: Could I have a couple of quotes from your book of dialogue that shows that personality?
Answer: After Simone’s first encounter with the worlds beyond ours:
The warmth of the day had faded, and I was so cold I began to shiver. I must have gathered my children, walked home, and given them some lunch but, to this day, I don’t remember any of that. I remember Michael, my prince among men, coming in from his studio and telling me that he was going to see if our neighbor, Mrs. Walczak, could keep an eye on the boys for a little while. When he returned, he took my hand and led me to sit on the couch. “What’s going on?” He asked.
I studied every inch of the face I loved, from the tiny scar on his left cheek, to the perfectly bowed shape of his lips. I reached up and brushed my fingers along his jawline, feeling the slight scratchiness of a day-old beard. He has always been the kindest, gentlest, wisest, most patient human being I have ever known. He loved me when I was at my most unlovable. He never once judged me. I wasn’t afraid to speak freely to him. I was afraid that speaking out loud would make it all real. Maybe, if I didn’t say anything at all, I could convince myself it had just been my imagination.
But even as I had that thought, I could hear the voices. They permeated my mind. Their words were clear and strong, now that I’d allowed the door to be opened.
When Simone and her followers learn that an army of supernatural creatures are coming for them:
Michael’s voice rang soft and strong. “He’ll decimate us no matter what. We are a handful of unarmed, untrained civilians. He has a fully equipped army of supernatural creatures. If Simone says we are to face this in faith, then we shall. If we don’t trust her to lead us in a new way of doing things, then what are any of us doing here?”
Question: What genre would you say the book falls into?
Answer: Mythological Fantasy – it definitely has a Christian tone to it, but the legends and stories of faiths and cultures from all over the world are woven into it.
Question: Are there any trigger warnings and/or explicit content readers should know about?
Answer: I think it’s pretty “PG-13,” but there is one scene that’s pretty graphically sexual and another where an innocent is killed in a fairly gruesome manner.
Question: Do you have any upcoming events?
Answer: I will be at The Blue Water Author Event in Port Huron, Michigan on June 24, and the Kerrytown Book Festival on September 10 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
We will most likely be doing a launch party for book 2 in the series in July – details TBA.
Question: What is next for you? Do you have anything in the works?
Answer: Book 2 in the Heaven and Earth series is being released in July of this year, and book 3 is with the editor now. We’re planning a January, 2018 release for that one.
I have another book that is a stand-alone. It’s sort of Supernatural meets Grumpy Old Men – silly and touching with a healthy dash of horror. I’m super excited about the folks who will be publishing that one, but it’s not time to share that info just yet. Keep an eye out, though!
Question: Do you have any special mentions? (Editor, cover art etc…)
Answer: Jonina Stump was my editor on this novel. She was amazing. She took a very inexperienced writer with an idea and showed me how to turn that idea into a novel I’m incredibly proud of.
Paramita Bhattacharjee (Creative Paramita) did the gorgeous design work on the cover.
Question: If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be?
Answer: I want to see it all! If I have to pick just one spot, though, at this time in my life, I’d say the Olympic National Forest. There is a place there, a handful of little cabins behind a general store, not so far away from Stephanie Meyers’ Forks, WA. On three sides, it’s surrounded by those impossibly tall trees that grow in the temperate rainforest and the fourth drops straight down a cliff. The pacific ocean crashes up against the rocks there in all its power and glory. It’s never very hot and a light drizzle falls just about every day.
Every since I found that little hide-a-way, I’ve wanted to rent one of those cabins and spend a week drinking coffee and watching the ocean and creating worlds on paper.
Question: If the character from above were in that place what would they be doing?
Answer: Michael? He’d be painting, no doubt about it. His art is who he is and that land is saturated with creative energy.
Question: If your character was allowed one chance to say anything to your readers, what would he/she say?
Answer: Simone was the character who had a message to share. Her ceaseless refrain was to love one another and love the one who made us all. Everything beyond that was just nonsense to her.
Question: If your character could donate to any charity, which one would he/she choose?
Answer: I have to think that Michael and Simone, as a couple, would be quick to give to charities like “Heifer International,” or UMCOR – charities that give in love and that give beyond immediate needs, providing a better life for their fellow humans.
