As part of our Year of Writing, participants have the opportunity to enter a Daily Drabble contest throughout the month of February. This contest consists of writing a short drabble–100 words or less–based on our fill-in-the-blank prompt, which is posted daily on our Twitter.
Winner: Jess Bowers
“Say, did you hear about the rising number of new vampires? It sucks, right?”
“What’s so bad about new blood?”
“I should’ve known you’d say something like that… You never do bite at my puns.”
“Sorry, but you don’t have to B- about it.”
“Fangs for trying to console me, at least.”
“The least I could do, I knew if I left you upset you’d drive me batty.”

Honorable Mention: Alicia Bede
CONTENT WARNING: SUICIDE
“Say, did you hear about Lara? It sucks, right?”
“What’s so bad about boarding school?”
“I should’ve known you’d say something like that. You just don’t understand. It’s a Catholic boarding school.”
“She’s pagan! Bisexual! Her parents want to convert her! It’s going to be hell for her, hiding her beliefs, pretending to be someone else. She just told the world who she is. She’ll have to hide it again.”
“It’s just two years.”
“Two years is a long time.”
“Did you two hear about Lara yet?”
“No.” The silence stretched on. “She’s dead. Suicide.”
